My Washington DC Trip "Day 3"

On Saturday Maggie and I played. We got up early and headed to Eastern Market for breakfast and to shop at the Farmers Market. I will admit I went a little overboard on buying jewelry. But one of my favorite jewelry artists still had a both there. The artist is Susan Johnson she has a jewelry botique called Lilly PadDesigns. I love her jewelry because it is made with craftmenship and materials, it lasts and its pettit jewelry. I am not a big fan of big and chuncky. I discovered her when I interned in DC. And was hopping she would be there this time.

This is what Eastern Market looks like. They have the yummiest breakfast. But go early it gets crowded fast.

Maggie and I order Blue Buck Pancakes, whole wheat blueberry pancakes, with pecans and syrup. I also ordered and egg. The best way to have breakfast.

UMMMMM!!!

After shopping Maggie and I visited the Library of Congress. Us outside of it.

But the funniest adventure of the day, well tied with Eastern Market..... was the paddle boats on the tidal basin. Our view of Jefferson from out boat.

Maggs and I. We did a great job taking our own picture.

Me with the Washington Monument in the backround.

Me with Jefferson in the Backround.

And to finish our day off we went to the National Natural History Museum. Then got dinner at Cosis and watched movies at Maggies appartment. I do miss living at the Consulate.

Video of the US States Map

This by far is the coolest piece of art I have ever seen.
Oh yea I warned you there would be a lot of posts for this trip. Only a few more to go.

My Washington DC Trip "Day 2"

I started my second day out at the Department of Interiors Museum. The website made it seem so cool, but lets say it was kind dumb. The picture below shows exactly what the exhibits are like. Well I planned on spending most of the morning there so I had time to spare. It was quite fun actually I followed all the blue tourists signs in the Fargut North area and found lots to do.

Oh there was one cool thing at the Department of the Interior. There was a very neat Indian Store. The store had an exhibit of Indian Statues. Here are a few I liked.

My wanderings lead me to happen upon the Red Cross. Outside where two really moving statues.

After these neat statues I ran into signs leading me to the Renwick Gallery. The outside was way cool but the inside was even better.

The coolest fish ever.

I loved this one mostly because I love rabbits. Though he is kind of creepy looking.

Who knows whats up with this one.

The best part about this giant vase was I want supposed to take pictures of it. I didnt see the no photo sign tell after I took the picture. Woops.

After my exploring I had lunch outside of the White House, the pictures are a little out of order here. After lunch I meet Maggie at her office to head over to the Capitol for the best Capitol tour I have ever been on. Maggs do tell Stanley that!

This statue of Lincoln shows the internal struggle he was suffering. He was torn inside about the state of the country, however he had to put on a positive face for the nation. If you look at the statue from one side Lincoln appears to be smiling while from the other he appears to be frowning. See if you can see which one he is frowning in.

This star is directly above where Washington was to be entombed, however his family did not want have him buried there. The star also serves as the center point of DC. From this point the Letter and Number streets are numbered.

To my lunch pictures. Here is the view of the white house I had.

A very unique view of the capitol.

The capitol rotunda. Did you know that it was painted by four different artists?

The original supreme court. I felt very smart when Stanley asked why there is a set limit of nine supreme court justices. I do have to admit majoring in Political Science did pay off.

Here is the tumb where Washington was to be buried. In it table where all the presidents and those who lie in state or honor casket is placed.

After the capitol Maggie and I went to the National Portrait Gallery and National Museum of American Art. This map of the US was made up of TVs showing unique movies or clips to each state.

My Washington DC Trip "Day One"

The first day in DC was great. Annette, my roommate from USU came out from Phillie to spend the day with me in DC. It was great because I have not seen Annette in a couple of years and I had not meet Cambrie yet, oh yea Annette brought Cambrie with her. Annette and I meet up at China Town and got lunch at Cosies. After lunch Annette, Cambrie and I went on a long, long walk to all the monuments, yet some how we missed the Vietnam silly us. Lesson learned yes you can walk around all the monuments in one day but I dont suggest it. After our walk around the monuments Maggie meet up with us at the botanical gardens. After the botanical gardens and walking to the capitol we went for dinner at the yummiest Italian restaurant called Vapiano's. It was so yummy you got to chose your sauce, then the noddles and they made it right in front of you.

Maggie and I outside of the Capitol.

Some pretty flowers in the rainforest portion of the Botanical gardens.

A cute little frog in the kids garden. I loved it for some reason.

Annette and Cambrie playing in the fountain.

Maggie and I in front of the bear.

Us in front of the giant balls, or according to Cambrie b-lon. I really dont know what they are.

The Washington Monument from across the mall.

Annette, Cambrie and I in front of the Lincoln Monument.

Cambrie and I at the Franklin Deleno Monument.

The Jefferson Monument from across the tidal basin.

Cambrie at the Jefferson Memorial she loved running around and climbing on all the stairs. The photo class loved her to.

My Washington DC Trip "The Start"

Over the 24th of July Weekend I decided to go to DC for a quick trip and visit some friends. What could I say payed time off makes for a win win situation with vacations.

Best part of the vacation: (Aside from being in DC its self)
- It was my trip, I got to decide what to do, I know a little selfish sounding. But it was nice.
- Visiting Maggie
- Visiting and spending the day with Annette meaning I got to meet Cambrie for the first time ever.

So here is the start of the vacation. I flew out, on Delta airlines, on Wednesday July 23rd and 8:55 pm. Yep I chose to go on an overnight flight with two lay overs. Man was I crazy.

The first leg of my flight was from Utah to Las Vegas. Did you know that there are slot machines right there in the airport. I had no clue. I guess I shouldnt have been surprised.

The second leg of my flight was from Vegas to Atlanta, the overnight portion. Lesson learned sleeping pills do not work and neither does the kid next to you constantly flopping over onto your seat. Well at least someone slept. Though I did sleep a little. The third and final leg of my flight was from Atlanta to DC. I for sure slept on this one. I remember waking up half way into the flight and said though "How are we in the air we never took off." But I did finally make it to DC. What is the worst part of an over night flight, be prepared to laugh, I always seemed to sleep when they where passing out the drinks, or I was half way asleep and did not want to open my eyes when the asked. Dang it all.

So the journey begins, (be prepared this will take multiple posts) on the metro of course. Oh yea I did sleep some cause I was not tired at all that day, well until around nine at night. Not bad if I do say so.
