The Beginning of Christmas Fun

So what is it about Christmas that makes it so busy? Waite maybe it's just my life. This weekend was crazy busy.

So I love the ballet and decided I needed to buy season tickets. On Friday night I went to my favorite ballet, the Nutcracker. Russ and I went to dinner at the Blue Iguana and then headed to the ballet. Can I say it was a great date!!

On Saturday night I went to the Eclipse Christmas concert with some of my friends. I know the photos are very lovely. That would be the result of trying to take self photos on an iPhone.

On Monday I drove up to Logan for a roommate catch up lunch. We ate and chatted for over two hours. It was fun catching up on life and meeting the kidos of roommates. I wish I had photos but I forgot my camera and my phone was dead.

After lunch I tool the Baird kids up to the mall to see Santa Claus and get yummy pretzels.

I Believe In Santa Clause

For a Christmas Spirit post here is my favorite Christmas Book.

"I Believe In Santa Clause" Diane Adamson

I believe in Santa Clause.
Imagine Santa.
What is he like?
He wears red.
His hair is white.
He comes in the night.
He loves little children.
He wants us to be good.
And he brings gifts.
Now imagine Jesus.
What is He like?
He wears red.
His hair is white.
He comes in the night.
He loves little children.
He knows we are good.
And he brings gifts.
Santa Clause is a symbol of Christmas.
The symbols of Christmas can remind us of the true meaning of Christmas.
The symbols of Christmas remind me of Christ.
So, I believe in Santa Claus.

I Joined The Fight Against Cancer...So Can You

I have always had a soft place in my heart for supporting the fight against cancer, especially childhood cancer. It breaks my heart to know children have to suffer through such sickness and can barely understand why. I have never personally had a family member sick with childhood cancer and I pray that I never do. However, I want to know I did all I can to support those families whose children are sick...you just never know what the future may bring.

This last week I choose to join the National Bone Marrow Registry.... and you can too!

This Christmas, here's two relatively simple, FREE gifts you can give your fellow man:

1. Get registered in the bone marrow donor registry: http://www.marrow.org/JOIN/. There are many people who need a life-saving bone marrow transplant, but who don't have a match. Last month we heard about this sad story - an 11 year old girl with AML (leukemia), who passed away. She needed a bone marrow transplant and a perfect match couldn't be found. YOU could be someones match. It takes about five minutes to get signed up. Get registered and give someone hope! Our friend Rachel was able to find a donor, can you imagine if she was saved because of YOUR marrow? What an amazing gift for everyone involved!

2. Donate blood at your local Red Cross you can also go HERE if you're not sure where that is. You can donate blood or platelets at American Red Cross. A single platelet donation can provide enough platelets for a full therapeutic dose for a patient in need. In fact, some platelet donations yield enough platelets for two or three therapeutic doses. By contrast, it takes about five whole blood donations to produce a single therapeutic dose. Many patients who need platelets are undergoing chemotherapy or organ transplant and have weakened immune systems. A platelet dose from a single donor reduces the patient’s exposure to multiple donors and is therefore preferred by many physicians. During a platelet donation, a small portion of your blood (less than one pint at a time), is drawn from your arm and passed through a sophisticated cell-separating machine. The machine collects the platelets and safely returns the remaining blood components, along with some saline, back to you. After the donation you can resume your normal activities, avoiding heavy lifting or strenuous exercise that day.

Next to the five year old girl trying to explain to us that the movie is not about Petter Pan but that's all about Tinker Bell would have to be how into we got!! We knew all the songs and the little kids looked at us like we were crazy!

Call me crazy but this really did help me feel better about turning 25. :)

Ok Why I Haven't Posted

Ok Ok my blogging abilities have gone so down hill its kind of sad. All I can say is this....I have gotten so caught up in the problems of my own life or at least what I thought were problems that I couldn't see all the good around me.

I kind of started catching on to this sad pity party I was living in a few weeks ago and said it was time to something about it. All I could think about was to stop praying for me and focus on solely prayers of gratitude...with prayers for others mixed in as needed.

My frustrations have stemmed from 3 sources....1) Not knowing when or if my job will become permanent... 2) Living in a very confusing dating life (trust me this is the easiest way to post it cause I swear the Jared and I thing is ever changing) ... 3) These two leading to stress, overeating and laziness which has lead to oh so many bad things being pounds now needing to be lost.

But that is all negative. And no more of that.....

So how did my experiment of only offering prayers of gratitude go? Well I can say this much...I often avoided praying on the days which were just hard because I could not find anything to be greatfull about. But on those days I was avoiding praying God still found a way to teach and reach me. I also found that my strength to continue forward kept growing and problems seemed less and less because I wasn't focused on them.

The biggest lesson I learned during this little experiment was simply this...God knows what we need and will not leave us. He will give us the strength we did not believe we had. He will comfort us when we need it. He will remind us of his love and that he his looking out for us. He will find ways to teach us lessons from things all around us.

Some ways these lessons came are this:
1) Needed conversations with Friends
2) Preventing cars from killing you in the gym parking lot
3) Getting to be involved in supporting Sklyer and his fight against cancer (I learned a lot her about strength and hope)
4) My little bro challenging us mid November to read the entire Book of Mormon by Christmas
5) Simply feeling the spirit burning in your heart
6) And so much more.

So this catch up blog came first for a few reasons....its negative and I wanted to explain the lack of posting. Because I have a lot to catch up on the posts are probably going to come by lots of pictures and some words but who knows.

I apologize in advance for the onslaught of posts

Please Pray for Skyler and All Other Children Battling for Their Lives

I know that I am more then over due for a blog post about me...that will be taken care of this weekend I promise.

However this post is to ask you to please pray for Skyler and his mom Crystal. Crystal is a dear friend to my dear friend Roger (I get it complicated connection here.) Crystal has gone through so much she lost her husband to a heart tumor two days before Skyler's 2nd birthday and now her 4 year old son is fighting for his life. In August he was diagnosed with Leukemia. His battle for life as been long and hard with many ups and downs. Currently he is fighting infections after infections. Please pray for Skyler.

Also please pray for all children fighting for their lives this Holiday season. Pray that they can grow to adulthood. Pray that their families can have strength to support their child during this battle. Pray that they can see Gods hand in their lives and that he gives them strength when it is most needed.

I work at Ronald McDonald House. Every shift I work I see the families who's children are fighting for their lives. Its amazing to see the strength and determination in their eyes. But the best part is seeing the pride and pure excitement and relief when their child gets to go home with them. What I have learned the most from working here is the power of Hope! I can see that God is supporting and strengthening all these families during their battle for life. The quote on the wall of the room I stay in at work says it all right "A little Faith, A little Hope, A lot of Healing."

This Thanksgiving please BE GRATEFUL for the HEALTHY CHILDREN in your life.....and PRAY for those children FIGHTING FOR THEIR LIVES....PRAY for THEIR FAMILIES that they have the strength to continue...PRAY FOR SKYLER.

Oh My Gosh I Have Been So MIA

I know I know I have been completely MIA. Is it bad to admit I have been letting life get the better of me.

....Lets put it this way. The last 18 months of my life have been an emotional rollarcoaster, my life has taken hundreds of ups and downs, twists and turns that I have let things get the better of me. I wanted to tackle my life with my new years resolutions...but they went to pot...so time to start again. I have decided to dedicate the next three months to goals...goals and more....goals. I am so so dreeding turning 25. My hope...is that if I can accomplish fixing a lot of bads in the next 3 months I will feel better about growing one year older.

On the list:
1) Create a habit of good scripture study
2) Learn to eat good again
3) Meet new 2 people each week at church
4) Be open to fun social engagements (hard to measure, should not be a goal)
5) A few personal things...not needing to be mentioned as they cant be measured
6) I would love to go on a date or two or three (please help here...Im open to being set up :))
7) Regular journal writing
8) And most important losing weight (they amount is my little secret!!)

I know it seems like a lot but they are the things that nag on my mind. (Ok the date thing doest have to be accomplished its just a wish. I would love love to start dating more....and more then that to go on many dates for my birthday...that gives you three months to get thinking)

But on a good note...Kendra is finally employed....more to come on that!!

Thoughts on Being a Child of God

In prep for my RS lesson I was wondering if you would mind sharing with me when you first gained a testimony of being a child of God and what this knowledge has done for you...how has it changed your life?

Also if you could please share scriptures or thoughts that helped strengthen your testimony of being a child of God.

If you can just leave a comment!

Thanks!! :)

Splish and Splash Sprint Triathalon!!!

Today I completed my first triatholon!!I competed in the South Davis Rec Center Splish and Splash tri!

Why this one?...Why a tri?

Well this one because I am terrified of swimming in a lake...afraid of drowning...I like being able to touch the wall every 25 yards. yep a slight wimp I am. Plus it was good timing to get the feel for them and know better how to train and what todo for the rest of the year.

Why a tri? I needed a new challenge. Everyone says I should do a full marathon...but Im not mentally ready. So this was my new challenge see what I can push my self to do.

How it went:
* I loved it!!!
* Times to come
* The swim was out of control. People jumping in the pool to start every 20 sec. People swimming on top of one another. I cant tell you how many times I got hit or hit someone. At least we are all doing so no need to feel bad!
* The bike was way fun. Though I probably shouldnt have pushed it so hard. But I figured I need to learn to run after biking hard. (Change in training coming soon!) The funnest moment was waiting for the train. A good rest. Though we only had a mile left.
*The run....Well I never knew my legs would forget how to listen. After the bike my legs wanted to peddle not run forward. A little challenging. And they made us run on the sidewalk...bad race planning there.

AND MANY MORE TRIS TO COME!!!

Enjoy the pictures and slide show. My parents get carried away taking them!

Family History Work

I have always been proud of my pioneer family history. My mom and her family are direct decedents of Wilford Woodruff (yep my moms madden name is Woodruff) so I guess I am too!! I love the strong heritage from which I come from, strong believers of out faith and examples of Christ. (My only complaint is that Wilford Woodruff was so good at journal writing, I cant help feeling guilty that I am not so good at it myself.) I have this secret desire to have a physical trait that is from Wilford Woodruff.

But enough that rambling. My ward is preparing to go to Martins Cove this summer and to learn about the rescue party and how we serve as rescuers through temple work. Part of the preparation has been the challenge to begin to do our family history work. So I decided to go for it.

Let me say this I never know it could be so overwhelming!!! I have spent months finding times and today I took them to temple to printed off and be ready to go. I am so excited to be able to do their work.

What excites me is that I have found a few names in the Woodruff/Delightstocking line. For whatever reason I cant help but feel that I am giving back to my wonderful Great Great Great Great Grandpa by sealing his family to him. He was such an influential leader in church history, a strong president of the Church and a wonderful example to his family and now I have a way to give back to him.

I know its silly but I am loving that I am able to do this and am excited to start the work.

Thank you wonderful bishopric for challenging us to do this.

Pray for You - Jaron and The Long Road to Love :: Official Video

OK OK I get it....this has to be the most pathetic post ever.

BUT...... If you ask me its just good old therapy. You know praying to forgive people is all good and that. But at times I would prefer this kind of prayer towards exs. (Or at least those the reached an all time low in the getting even after a break up game.)

I have to say I love this video!

Advice from Elder Busche

I want to share with you a vehicle, an instrument, that I developed some time ago for myself and for my family. It can assist us to reach our focus as we read the suggested vision of true discipleship as a Latter-day Saint. It helps when, from time to time, we ponder and seek identification with the following thoughts:

* Embrace this day with an enthusiastic welcome, no matter how it looks. The covenant with God to which you are true enables you to become enlightened by him, and nothing is impossible for you.

* When you are physically sick, tired, or in despair, steer your thoughts away from yourself and direct them, in gratitude and love, toward God.

* In your life there have to be challenges. They will either bring you closer to God and therefore make you stronger, or they can destroy you. But you make the decision of which road you take.

* First and foremost, you are a spirit child of God. If you neglect to feed your spirit, you will reap unhappiness. Don't permit anything to detract you from this awareness.

* You cannot communicate with God unless you have first sacrificed your self-oriented natural man and have brought yourself into the lower levels of meekness, to become acceptable for the Light of Christ.

* Put all frustrations, hurt feelings, and grumblings into the perspective of your eternal hope. Light will flow into your soul.

* Pause to ponder the suffering Christ felt in the Garden of Gethsemane. In the awareness of the depth of gratitude for him, you appreciate every opportunity to show your love for him by diligently serving in his Church.

* God knows that you are not perfect. As you suffer about your imperfections, he will give you comfort and suggestions of where to improve.

* God knows better than you what you need. He always attempts to speak to you. Listen, and follow the uncomfortable suggestions that he makes to us--everything will fall into its place.

* Avoid any fear like your worst enemy, but magnify your fear about the consequences of sin.

* When you cannot love someone, look into that person's eyes long enough to find the hidden rudiments of the child of God in him.

* Never judge anyone. When you accept this, you will be freed. In the case of your own children or subordinates, where you have the responsibility to judge, help them to become their own judges.

* If someone hurts you so much that your feelings seem to choke you, forgive and you will be free again.

* Avoid at all cost any pessimistic, negative, or criticizing thoughts. If you cannot cut them out, they will do you harm. On the road toward salvation, let questions arise but never doubts. If something is wrong, God will give you clarity but never doubts.

* Avoid rush and haste and uncontrolled words. Divine light develops in places of peace and quiet. Be aware of that as you enter places of worship.

* Be not so much concerned about what you do, but do what you do with all your heart, might, and strength. In thoroughness is satisfaction.

* You want to be good and to do good. That is commendable. But the greatest achievement that can be reached in our lives is to be under the complete influence of the Holy Ghost. Then he will teach us what is really good and necessary to do.

* The pain of sacrifice lasts only one moment. It is the fear of the pain of sacrifice that makes you hesitate to do it.

* Be grateful for every opportunity to serve. It helps you more than those you serve.

* And finally, when you are compelled to give up something or when things that are dear to you are withdrawn from you, know that this is your lesson to be learned right now. But know also that, as you are learning this lesson, God wants to give you something better.

Thus, we prepare all the days of our lives, and, as we grow, death loses its sting, hell loses its power, and we look forward to that day with anticipation and joy when he will come in his glory.

Missionary Work

My singles ward has been encouraging us to be involved in missionary efforts. Ill admit I have always held back on this. Partly because I have worked in sticky situations where I never felt able to be a member missionary. But I know this is no excuse.

On Sunday our Ward Mission Leader spoke to us. He suggested easy ways we can use the internet to share our beliefs:
1) During Conference Post on Face Book you are watching conference
2) After Conference post your favorite talk
3) Post the Mormon Message videos to your Face Book or Blog pages
4) Post talks, scriptures, etc to your Face Book or Blog pages
5) And what ever you can think of.

I have decided to take him on this challenge. I have posted links to a few Mormon Message videos on my blog and facebook. I would love to post the actual video on my blog but when I tried the video took over the page covering the side bars. If any one has suggestion or knows how to fit the vidoes from youtube onto your blog I would love to know how!

Oh yea the pictures are of my brother Elder Prince on his mission in Louisiana! In short this is my shout out for missionary work and missionaries. Three cheers to Missionaries! We Love You!

King Size or Snack Size!

Let me start off by saying we are all human!

Into I go....

If you have followed my blog at all you would able to quickly see that I have spent the last year in an on again off again relationship. (Trust me I never ever thought I would find my self in this position. And I doubt they ever really work out. OK maybe 90% dont.)

Last week was a little bit hard in the relationship area.

Jared stopped by my house on Monday to hang out and talk. The general idea was this...

Jared told me:
-That I am crazy to break up when he meets 90% of what I want my dream guy to be. (Let me just add in that the missing piece would be church commitment and well thats huge and way out weighs everything else. He just doesnt get that.)
- That he knows I will come to my senses and realize we are ment to be together and that he doesnt plan to move on for awhile to give me a chance to come to my senses.

My end result....I was just mad, frustrated and having to deal with a broken heart again.

But how does this all relate. Easy....My week we all ready and emotional wreck. I was feeling hurt and lonely and wanted things to be different. And when I was feeling down I got to go to a bridal shower. Yep thats right. Its kind of like rubbing salt into the wounds. (Ok Ill admit the shower was fun, just hard.)

On Sunday I found my self at a point were I was wondering if I was doing the right thing by breaking up with Jared. Even though Heavenly Father had pretty much come short of hitting me over the head with a bat while telling me to break up. I may have known the choice was right but the hurt and loneliness was enough to make me go back. (I think that is how on again off again relationships come about.)

Well our lesson in relief society was what I needed to hear. It was on the conference talk "Preserving the Hearts Mighty Change." The teacher told a story about her seminary class. Her teacher had hidden a snack snickers bar in the class when one student was in the hall. The class was then asked to guide the student to the candy. While they were playing hot and cold the teacher him self was giving different directions. Well a battle broke out between teacher and students. The student listened to the class and found the candy. After the teacher showed that he was guiding the student to an even better King Size Candy Bar. The teacher related this experience to listening to the world or chossing to stand by God, the teacher. If we learn to listen to God he will direct us to the best reward.

Our teacher then told us to her own struggles with and on again off again relationships that has lasted for years. She told of how each time she gets lonely she is tempted to go back to him, marry him and settle for the snack size candy bar. She then told of how God promised her the King Size amazing husband!

I thought about this my self and knew in my heart that if I choose to stand by God and hold out for the King Size Candy bar, aka the really good guy, we will be blessed. God will stand by us.

I think the second thing that struck me hard in the lesson. Was how she explained the hardest thing in life is choosing to be lonely while we wait for the king size candy bar. She then suggested there may be an even harder thing....learning to be at peace and be still allowing God to spend time with us, refining us while we wait for the answers to our prayers to come.

What A Blog Post!

Ok I figure its about time I actually update my blog.

March was a way crazy month for me!!

My parents were kind enough to fly me out to New York to visit Michael while he was out there training for his job. (One nice thing about being unemployed I get unlimited time to play. Yea I know one day it will end.)

So highlights of my New York Trip:
- Time with Michael
- Tried fancy restaurants, though I am a fan of comfort food with in good prices. Fancy restaurants are good once in awhile but a while trip worth. A little much.
- Lots of fun shopping! And I stayed with in my budget. I had fun checking out Century 21, designer stores, Saks, Barneys and other fun stores. I even checked out a Designer Sample Sale!!
- I got to finally see New York tourists spots, I just had to go to NYC twice to get to them. I saw Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, the Friends Appartment Building, Mangolias Bakery, Empire State Building, Rockefeller Square, Ground Zero,Times Square, and Central Park, The Natural History Musuam, The Met, and the Moma

End results of NYC:
-Cute clothes
-And I have set a goal to save and buy a Juicy Couture Purse. It will be my first purchase as a congrats on getting a job. They are so pretty!!

My Annual Trip to Moab! Yep I ran the Canyonlands Half Marathon again. Did ok on the race. Checked out some cool new hikes! Loved a fun weekend with my dad.

Lost Lessons of Soccer

So I havent played official organized soccer in probably 8 years. I have played pick up games here and there but nothing full on. I joined an indoor team, made up from the fabulous people in my singles ward. Last night was the first game I played in (haha I missed the first team game). There are many lessons about me and soccer I learned last night. Not sure how I forgot them.

They are:
- Taking out guys twice your size is way fun
- Soccer uses much different muscles the running (ouch is what I said this morning)
- You can be afraid of being hit or hitting people, balls, walls, etc.
- Reffs dont always know what their talking about
- Team sports are easier with a coach
- Subbing is nice
- Girls can take out guys
- Guys should not back off on taking out girls, sorry but I think thats wimpy and sexest (dont ask)
- There is no need for appologies on the field
- Random bruises show up all the time when playing soccer
- Defense is the best!!
- Much, much more

#1 LESSON:
I am overly competitive!! When I get mad its hard to back down. When a player seems tuff I cant help but take them out.

Man I love soccer!!

2009 Recap All That Life Brought

2009 was one of those funny whirl-wind years. I thought of listing only the good but figured I would just list all the moments I remember. (No particular order)

-Going through the temple to receive my endowments
- Ski Trip to Jackson Hole with my brothers
- A ward trip to Jackson Hole
- Dinner with my boyfriends family, now that was a weird moment...how did I get there?
- My relationship with Jared
- Kicking my relationship off with Jared at the Grizzlies Hockey Game...the best Hockey Game I have ever gone to
- A fun trip to Park City with Friends
- Leaving my job
- Being called as an FHE group leader
- My new calling as the Relief Society President
- Running the Wasatch Back with my friends in the ward
- Buying my new fabulous bike!
- Wining several races
- Running in several races (what would I do without running?)
- Great girls nights
- Seeing Wicked (despite the nightmares after, kind of afraid of the Wizard of Oz)
- An amazing girls trip to San Diego with my mom and Heidi
- Came down with funny illnesses
- Had my first crown...never again

....Ok so maybe its been a great year, just a hard month

Onto a better year in 2010

So I Thought I Could Blog....Obviously Not

So that was a funny dream to think I could blog on a regular basis. I think daily may be overkill for me so I am going to step and try weekly.

Recently I have found my myself facing a lot of changes in life. Such as:
- Becoming unemployed
- Once and for all ending my relationship with Jared (silly that it took us nine months to figure things out.

But its all for the best. Lately I have felt in a huge rut and didnt know why, how I got there or how to get out. Honest I am not sure the answers to any of those questions.

All I know is this:
- I need to make the changes in my life that allow me to get back to being, the things I did when I felt the best. Hence my 2010 goals.
- Right now I am 95% sure going back to school is the best option
- I have come to learn I deserve the best when it comes to relationships. I deserve to date someone who will treat me like the daughter of God that I am and that can help establish a family based on the church and love of and in Christ.

Ill keep up to date and how life pans out.

My 2010 New Years Resolutions

Yep its that time of Year of for News Years Resolutions. My underlying goal is feel like I have control of life again and that things are good. It seems that some how I have let of go of being me and become lazy. (I think thats the easiest explanation.)
